No sound from speakers 16.04

Hi
I installed ubuntu 16.04 and have come across this problem of not having sound from the speakers, but if I put headphones in it works.
I have tried various things from the web, but to no avail.
However what does work is if in a terminal without sudo I type
I get the following error, but it makes the sound work through the speakers.

I have followed the sound problems from the sticky on the forum, but still no solution. I have turned windows 10 fast boot off and shutdown the OS.
I would appreciate any help or point in the right direction.

Hello and welcome to the Forum, Have you try clicking on the sound icon at the top right hand of your desktop? make sure it's not muted

The cable is plugged into my TV, on my HTPC, and does not have sound.
Headphone do work, however.

Same issue here with Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mate (both 16.04). The Laptop I'm using had no sound issues with 14.04 or any other Ubuntu release since 2005.

I have the same problem, just installed Ubuntu Mate 16.04, get sound through headphone jack, not through speakers.
