how to switch graphic cards on HP Envy 17
So I have an HP Envy 17 Laptop with Windows 7 currently installed and I am about to install Ubuntu v12.04 as a dual boot and I know everything will install correctly because I have done this in the past on this laptop.
My problem is that when Ubuntu is installed it overheats due to my dedicated ATI graphics card. I have an onboard Intel HD Graphics adapter as well and I want to use as my default graphics adapter, but I cant seem to switch them when on ubuntu.
When updating ubuntu it sees my ATI graphics but doesnt see my Intel HD graphics. Is their any way to disable my ATI graphics card and keep my Intel HD Graphics on by default?

First, check at HP and see if they have BIOS updates. They said back when that they would update the BIOS to include being able to switch grahics GPU's from BIOS... But user's later complained that that feature was not in the BIOS Update.
Are you using an ATI Chrysalis Driver? If so what version?

I have an ATI Radeon HD 6850M dedicated graphics card along with the on-board Intel HD Graphics.
I am not using the ATI Chrysalis Driver, in fact it does not tell me specifically what driver it is, the update software just says that the driver is a generic universal driver fitted for most ATI cards.
Sorry it took me so long to get back :)
