file package problem

i have a problem with /usr/local/bin/file package, precisely with the magic.mgc file
as i remember i had a conflicting package which made me unable to run 'file' in a correct way, i removed it and the problem persisted :(

googled `n googled without luck, i need to run 'file' on my stuff please F1 me

Why do you have a "/usr/local/bin/file package"? The default installation puts the file binary in /usr/bin

Did you install a new version of 'file' from source?

no idea at all, it is sitting in /usr/local/bin/file
i solved it by compiling and installing the source package of file from source
