Mounted drives don't appear on Desktop or Places

Hi everyone,

Pretty simple question. I have Xubuntu dual booting on a machine with Windows and it also has drives for storage. in Xubuntu they all mount fine and in programs you can open and access files on all drives if you browse from the programs open/save menu. None of these drives show up on the desktop or in the places menu, all I have is "File System" in addition to the standard Desktop, Home. etc. Also my USB flash drive shows up just fine in the menus and desktop.

Seems like it should be an easy fix but I can seem to find it! Any help is appreciated!

Where do you mount those partitions/drives (mount points)? Open a terminal and post the outputs of these commands here.

Thanks, sorry I have not gotten back yet. I started messing with Windows 7 for a little while but I'll be back into Xubuntu later today to run those commands.

Could'nt help but notice this thread. I'm a newbie trying to set up a linux server using xubuntu Hardy Heron. Everything is installed. Next I added a Maxtor HD which had been on my Windows server. The Maxtor drive has all my movies and apps files on it.

It does not show on my desktop but is listed Applications- >Systems---->Systems Monitor as:

"/dev/sdb1/media/DSK1_VOL1" however under "type" I see "fuseblk".

How can I get the drive to show up and access it's contents??

Forgot to add the Maxtor is set to "slave" on the IDE cable with the linux drive.

I was able to mount a USB-external portable drive recently (well, I muddled thru until, "Presto!", it showed up)but I am flailing around helplessly with this new problem.
