View Full Version : [gnome] Composite Extension Not Available When Trying to Activate Desktop Visual Effects

I'd like to try out Intrepid's desktop visual effects, i.e., the "Normal" or "Extra" options under System | Preferences | Appearances | Visual Effects.

The trouble is that when I select one of these options, I get the error message "The Composite package is not available".

In Synaptic I did a search for "Composite" and then installed libxcb-composite0 and x11proto-composite-dev, hoping this would solve the problem. No luck.

Anybody have any ideas?

I'm running Intrepid on a Dell 8300 with 512 MB of memory and a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card.
