i restarted my computer and now i can't mount anything(jumpdrives, external HDs, etc), not even a cd. i don't know what happend! it'll list them when i click on places, but they don't appear on the desktop.

any ideas on what it could be and how i can fix it? also "shutdown" and "restart" don't show up on the start button deal. i'm new to ubuntu by the way. thanks!

Nevermind, i fixed it. first i searched the ubuntu desktop under the synaptic package manager. i tried mounting and it said something to the effect of cannot mount the child process "gnome-mount" or something like that. then i looked up "gnome-mount" under the synaptic package manager and downloaded that and now everything is working normal.
