Greets All-

actually initramfs...sorry for the typo-

Need your expertise please~

I'm trying to rid of windows completely; as the hp dv41120us came preinstalled with vista-

I'd like to put ubuntu on, though when booting from the live cd, comes back with initramfs which from the threads I've been to indicate to change the drive setting to support raid, although there is only one drive installed. I have made no mods to this laptop--I cannot boot to a 'disk cleaner' cd, or DBAN on floppy nor boot into windows (blue screen of death there too); and the live cd for ubuntu always goes back to initramfs with any option.

It is 8.10 if that matters. I'm stuck and any advice you may have to clear win completely would be greatly appreciated.

The drive contains no data that I want...so any instruction is well received!

I have with me right now...no access to internet..for laptop anyway...so can't download anything...have a win98se boot disk that can't be read, a livecd for ubuntu 8.10 and a 'drive erase' boot cd that fails on load -acronis warning or something and a win xp pro disk (that can't be read either)...

I am willing to use win xp or ubuntu, anything except vista...

BIOS memory test indicates all is good....

With one foot off the cliff, I await your wisdom :)
