View Full Version : [ubuntu] Need Codecs without internet

November 30th, 2008, 05:26 PM
I've just installed Ubuntu 8.10, and know nothing about it. I really want to get away from windows, and want to learn to get all I can out of Ubuntu. I currently don't have an internet connection on my Ubuntu computer, but want to get the Codecs to play MP3 and video files. Like I said, I know very little about this yet, so I'm sure I could find what I need by searching, but not too sure what to search for yet. Any help on how I could get this on a CD, and then on to my computer would be great.

The Ubuntu Live and install DVDs have the codecs you need on them, I'm pretty sure the CDs don't. I'll happily be proved wrong on this though if that's changed since I downloaded 7.10.

Where can i get the DVD's? Or would it just be better to wait until I can get the internet in a couple of weeks?

Not sure on your configuration but try aptoncd: http://aptoncd.sourceforge.net/

Search for it in Synaptic Package Manager as well to install it.
