I am kind of new to linux, and I've been trying to install ubuntu on my computer. I've burned around five installation CD's, but they all don't work at all. Every time the boot screen appears and I select an option, the whole thing freezes. Please help me with this problem.
Computer Specs:
Hp Pavilion 501n
Celeron 1.2 Ghz.
256 mb RAM

looks like you didn't take the time to read ubuntu's requirements before you burned those cd's. read this:

RAM is the bottleneck, best off upgrading to at least 512 to install
ubuntu 8.1
with 256 RAM you could install xubuntu
http://www.xubuntu.org/
If you have any trouble with installation then a alternate installation is recommended
Check alternate cd version when downloading

Sorry, I forgot to add that before I tried to install ubuntu, I tried to install xubuntu. The xubuntu CD had the same problem as the ubuntu CD. The alternate CD didn't work either

are you burning the cd's at the slowest possible speed?
