I notice that some people have lambdas (the Greek letter) in their avatars. What does it signify?

Well, the game Half-Life uses the Lambda symbol extensively, and it's also a symbol for LGBT groups.

It is the logo for the programming languages Scheme and Haskell, I believe.

Right, I meant, not what does it signify in general, but specifically why are people here putting it in their avatars?

Why do you have numbers in your avatar? Because you like it, of course!

In a computing context like this I tend to take it as a reference to lambda calculus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda_calculus), which of course is also the reason Scheme and Haskell use it.

Lambda is used by some as a symbol of homosexuality.

Because you need to find the Lamdba team. They will know what to do.
