Your Operating System Progression

I was cleaning up files on my server, getting ready to add additional hard drive space, when I came across some screenshots of old Linux installs, dating back to 2002.

That got me thinking about my own personal operating system progression. For my own sanity I'm going to only include gui installations, I can't remember all the versions of DOS I might have gone through!

I've attached my oldest screenshot from 2002 (I wish I kept older ones), it's either Mandrake 9.0 or Gentoo, running what I think is WindowMaker

You know, it's kind of hard to write a "progression" when you've run things at different times, and/or in parallel with each other, and so on.

2001 > 2008 (Still have it on my computer but TBH I have never used it, by far Microsoft's best release (why do you think ive used it for 7 years? :) ))

Ubuntu 7.10 -> 8.10:
late-2007 > present (Part of a quad-boot, second fallback OS. Best OS I've ever used! I consider it my stepping stone to Linux)

Arch Linux:
2008 (October) > present (Again, part of a quad-boot. Currently my main OS, has taught me a lot)

Debian Lenny:
2008 (October) > present ('', first fallback OS, really awesome OS)

Here is a more detailed version of my OS journey, with test runs and honorable mentions:

The first computer I have ever used was the good ol Apple II with classic MS DOS, it was my first home computer too as we got one secondhand.
After the apple II died of its old age spent a few years withtout a PC until 98 with a used PC with win 95 in 2000 (though I have used 95 at school).
That computer lasted us a bit till it too gave up and we then used a newer computer in with windows 98, we then made the mistake of installing ME on her.
Thankfully that nightmare was over soon as we were finally able to get our hands on a XP computer.
Our first XP computer lasted a good 4 years for a emachine, but then came the xp service pack hell.
XP flew apart with SP1, we had to reinstall XP and again had hell with SP1 and we got a secondary computer with 2000 on her.
We had that set up till 2004 and then came service pack 2
Then we experimented with linux and with jumps in between we are all linuxers here :D

I've never been able to totally ditch windows- use wine for somethings but it was never good enough. Best situation I had was using vmware in linux which I am back to again.
I'd really prefer using OpenBSD but not enough eye candy or new hardware support to make me go there.
