Is it possible to install Ubuntu from the live cd to a hard drive using the terminal rather that the ubiquity gui? The reason I want to know is that I want to be able to use the Orca screen-reader to install Ubuntu and the Ubiquity gui does not work with Orca.

I have tried ubiquity --automatic but that still brings up the gui, presumably I would have to add extra parameters?

Any help gratefully received!

Or you can always try the alternate CD.

is the alternate cd equivalent to installing ubuntu from the terminal?

will it be able to install ubuntu to a specific partition?

The installer for the alternate cd has an option for manual partitioning so yes you can install Ubuntu to a external drive.
