Hi All,
I really need your HELP, please!
While I was trying to make a space for Ubuntu 8.10 I don’t know how but instead of formatting a small partition of my HDD I formatted the whole drive with my Windows, all of the family photos, music, docs, etc. – you got the idea. I think in the GParted under device menu I hit “Create Partition Table” – I really don’t know why I did this but the fact now is I don’t have anything on my HDD left :-(
Is there any chance I can get my data back? Any HDD repair soft I can run under Ubuntu Live CD?
Thank you in advance!

Add your disk to another computer which has data recovery software on it ?

You might need to use testdisk on this one.

Hi
I did the same thing once but I was lucky I did not have a lot of data to lose. I found a few sites that might be able to help they are..
http://www.nucleusdatarecovery.org/hard-drive-recovery.html
http://www.diskdatarecovery.net/
http://www.drivesavers.com/

I'm sure there are others just type "disk recovery" in a google search.
Good Luck
Eric

try this:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery
and let this be a lesson to you (and everybody else) NEVER, NEVER make any major changes to your computer, without first backing up your data. which you should do on a regular basis anyway. what would happen if the hard drive just died, the computer gets hit by lighting? BACK UP, BACK UP!

TestDisk ROCKS!!!!
It didn't just recover all of my data but the whole HDD is in the state it was half day ago. All my 3 partitions are back even the XP is bootable and working as a charm!
Thank you very much for all your help!
