Check the x64 benchmarks as well, clearly superior to their x32 counterparts for both distros.

Perhaps your title could have reflected how the kernel is using the 64bit cpu more effectively these days as the speed tests on the current releases of Ubuntu & Fedora indicate. :-)

Which is great, since most of the cpu's being sold for some years now have been 64bit.

With the performance differences being minimal, it really comes to the feature set of each distribution and which one you are most familiar with (Ubuntu / Debian vs. Fedora / Red Hat) when deciding between these two popular Linux distributions.

^Spot-on. Even if Fedora performed better I suspect many of us would still use Ubuntu.

Good to see the benefits of 64-bit clearly demonstrated, an interesting read.

Erhm, the results are nearly the same, which is also the conclusion of the article.

It was the conclusion of the article because it was obviously written by a Fedora fan.

Well, they are using the same underlying systems and Kernel, aren't they.
There should not be much difference.

Well, they are using the same underlying systems and Kernel, aren't they.
There should not be much difference. So basically you are saying that Canonical doesn't do anything?

It was the conclusion of the article because it was obviously written by a Fedora fan.

It should also be the conclusion for anyone looking at the figures. There was really no difference worth noting.

I gave up trying to test out Fedora after not being able to boot into a graphical environment. Even after changing the graphic mode in the bootline.

Some people might think you are obviously a Ubuntu fan. What's so wrong about the two having almost identical results? No matter what the conclusion is, the results are pretty much the same. That also makes sense as someone else already posted

That doesn't mean there are no differences between the two, but they simply aren't reflected by benchmarking the two.

How was it obviously written by a Fedora fan? If anything the results put Ubuntu in the lead (by a fraction of a fraction of less than 0.1%). Your posts are obviously written by ..... hang on, I can't say that here.

The article illustrates the difference between 32bit and 64bit much more than any difference between Ubuntu and Fedora. Most people think that 64bit offers no speed improvement, just access to more than 4Gb of memory. This article proves otherwise.

Well I've been using Fedora a bit and it seems faster than Ubuntu. Ubuntu is more user friendly, however.
