Is it just me or are updates from the repositories unbelievably slow for others? Is this related to the release of Intrepid? I think it started around that time. I don't remember this happening with previous releases of Ubuntu.

you know I noticed the slow down at first. but then my speeds seemed totally normal for a while. then yesterday they seemed slow. there is probably a lot of factors that play into it. If you can find a local mirror (I think there are local mirrors but not sure) they downloads will probably be faster.

This happens to me every now and then, but after changing my primary download server in Software Sources it speeds things up.

I'm definitely downloading from my local mirror and it's as slow as dialup.

Perhaps that mirror is not very good / lots of people use it.

For a while a few weeks ago it was slower than contenintal drift...now though it is speedy.

Update manager works fine here. I updated my primary 8.04 HD a couple days ago.
This morning updated my secondary 8.04 HD. That took about 20 minutes but that was because of the amount of updates available.
My 8.10 HD had 132 updates waiting as I very seldom use 8.10 because of some issues.
Besides, 8.04 has support until April 2011.
Support for 8.10 is only until 2010.
Only takes 30 seconds to change hard drives.

No problems here on Kubuntu. I only had a problem during the first days of the intrepid release.

I never realized there were so many options for mirrors. I found a good one. The difference is like night and day. 8)

As far as repositories go you can find the fastest at that moment in software sources-other, using a local does not mean faster since the information moves at the speed of light to the tortoise servers. Personally I use the main one.
