Hi all,

I would like to know why ubuntu doesn't have a nice console setup like OpenSuse or Arch or ..... well practically every other Linux distros out there.
They have made a great efford in to making the TTY consoles look nice and comfortable.

Even Slackware looks a lot better when working in console than Ubuntu.

I know a lot of old school linux users who absolutely loves Ubuntu but having a hard time getting used to all that point'n click stuff!

Ubuntu is a very good distro indeed, but do not take advantage of the power that lays in working behind the brown interface.

And it's very sad to see that the developers of ubuntu doesn't take their heritage serious !

Yes I'm pissed of ! I really like ubuntu it's a fantastic peace of software, but I REALLY do miss the black world and would like to have it dressed up in an easy way.

It would be fantastic to be able to sudo apt-get install tty-themes, so it would be possible to concentrate on my work in good old console, where great inspirations keeps crawling through the darkness.

There are myriads of fantastic software dedicated to the console and it's a pity not to be able to use them the way they were intended to!

I have tried a lot to make the console look nice, but have to give up on this!

What do you think ?

I'm not really sure what you mean by a "theme", if you are going to work a lot on the CLI, without X Window, you must certainly would want to enable a high resolution console (http://oesediez.blogspot.com/2008/09/ubuntu-high-resolution-console.html), and then setup a nicer console font (http://oesediez.blogspot.com/2008/07/fight-font-uglyfication-console.html).
Other than that, perhaps the Bash prompt customization (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Bash-Prompt-HOWTO/)?

Hi,
You need to install Splashy (http://www.bootsplash.org/) (previously called Bootsplash) and replace Usplash with it.

EDIT: Don't install Splashy from the repositories; it doesn't work right.
