Hi, my first post here.
I have been happily installing Ubuntu 8.10 on the PCs on my network, no problems so far. However, when I try to run the live cd (both x86 and alternate version) or install on my Acer Aspire laptop (Athlon 2400+, 2 GB RAM, Via Unichrome/KM400 chipset) the CD boots, the orange bars do there thing, then I get dumped to the CLI. If I use the alternative CD it gets further but the installation screens are unreadable. Seems it has a problem with the GFX chipset? I should add it happily runs OpenSuse, Mandriva 2009 and Puppy Linux, so it seems to be an Ubuntu problem. Any ideas most appreciated, thanks.

After much Googling around, and finding many others in the same boat, I found the solution here.
