Does anyone know of a good video converter that will convert avi files to smv?I'm using 8.04. Thanks in advance.

I am guessing you mean "wmv" rather than "smv". Anyway, assuming you do mean "wmv" then check out this previous post:

I think mencoder will do the job for you.

I wish it was wmv but its really smv its kooky i know and i have never heard of it until now. its for a mp4 type media player.I will be sure to try mencoder,does it have a gui?

There's actually a website where you can do that, and you don't have to download any software to use it. It's called Media Convert - http://media-convert.com/. Simply follow the directions, and download the converted file back to your computer in its new format.

I recommend Leawo Video Converter, which converts among most file formats at the moment, you can browse their site at http://moyeamedia.com/leawo-video-converter/
also this is the one I usually use, I'm sure you'll be satisfied with it.:guitar:

You can get smv_encode from the following link, there is a deb to install to Hardy and a gui application.
