Happy Thanksgiving All.

I am planning on buying an HP Mini this weekend. The mini only comes with XP, but I really want to try out ubuntu on it. I have never worked with linux, but I really want to learn.

I will not have much room to run both XP and Ubuntu since the Mini I am getting only comes with a 16G SDD drive.

Any help on how I get rid of XP and load ubuntu would be most appreciated.

This PC will be brand new so I have no info that needs to be backed up.

Thanks!!

If you want to wipe out XP from the harddrive, just boot Ubuntu from the LiveCD and install it. When you get to the partition screen, tell the installer to use the whole harddrive, wiping out windows from your machine. That's all you have to do.

Hi
If your mini dosen't have a cd drive there are ways of putting the LiveCD on a usb thumb drive
Sorry I don't know how to create it but I'm sure someone will help you with that (if you need it)
Good luck
Tom

You can install from a usb thumb drive. You will also be able to install the Ubuntu install cd onto the thumbdrive from Windows: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/10/06/usb-ubuntu-810-install-from-windows-non-persistent/#more-492

Hi again

Just downloaded "unetbootin-windows-299" program to install "ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386" iso (for lts hardy)
and "ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386" iso each to their FAT32 formatted thumb. I followed http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=811397
and they both work like a charm. Did it all in windows in 4 or 5 steps. Easy easy easy. I read your link http://www.teamteabag.com/2008/05/17...tros-from-usb/ (http://www.teamteabag.com/2008/05/17/howto-easy-install-ubuntu-804-hardy-heron-or-most-other-distros-from-usb/) and think the method I followed was simpler.

Good luck again and welcome to ubuntu:lolflag:
