My job is to remind people to mark their thread as solved, under Thread Tools, at the top of this page.
Actually, I'm a teacher, and what I love about my job, is the satisfaction of seeing my students "bloom" in confidence, especially the very poor.
What I hate are the annoying cockroaches that disturb my classes. Just put your head on that desk and go to sleep!!!:-({|=

I'm a full time CG Student ("3d bachelor"). I really really love 2d/3d animation and rigging. The only thing I hate is the fact that we have 5-6 project at the same time. So we can't concentrate on one.

I also have to work during my scholarship, so I'm working as a web programmer (as3, php, .net).

I don't really have a job in the sense most people will define "Job".

I milk cows from time to time, but mostly I sit here at home messing with Ubuntu, and coding Perl, and etc.

Anyway, about that job, I love being around the cows, I love all the cows, and they love me back and they show it.

Like I'd go and pet one, and she'd start to lick me and rub her cheek against me and all that, lol.

What I hate about that job is standing there for 6 hours straight, in the same place, doing the same thing - while ($cows_not_finished) { keep_milking(); }

It can be done in 3 and a half hours, or it can be done in 8 hours, and so on. it depends on how well the milkers do.

I once went there at 6:30pm and only came back home at 2:30am, that really was the worst evening shift milking I've ever done there.

I also greatly dislike the whole milk industry in general, I mean, in the way most of the people who work in it treat the cows.

It's like whenever a cow "doesn't give enough milk" (give, wth?!) the big boss decides she doesn't make enough money to cover her own food, so he sends her to be slaughtered.
Does this **** you off? it should, it certainly pisses me off.

The myth of dairy farmers love cows, is not existent, it's all a lie.
Sure, some dairy farmers love the cows, but most of them don't.

Heh, I used to work there full time, and each time I'd see they send cows to that truck, which takes them to place where they get killed, I picked up a chair and flattened it.
And the boss wouldn't understand why I was so mad about it, because all he cares about is the money these poor creatures make.

When I'm there, I try to treat these cows with as much love and respect as I can, and when they begin to trust me (cows usually back away from humans in fear), then they actually come to me when they see me, and they lick me, and let me hug them and touch them (even in the face!) and kiss them and etc.

That makes it worth working there, the love these creatures share with you, once they know you and trust you.

I have to say that while the attitude behind this behaviour pisses me off, I can understand the behaviour itself. After all, there have to exist people who are prepared to kill cows so that their meat can be sold, simply because humans need proteins from meat and other stuff that can't be replaced by vegetables.
However, what I find much more infuriating is, how cows and other animals are treated while they live. How cows are held in tiny cages, fed with hormones and overmilked until you get blood in the milk.

I am kind of surprised though, that you have to milk the cows by hand. I somehow thought that nowadays that's mainly done by machines. If your boss is prepared to employ you so that you can give some love to the cows, rather than use a machine, then he is not as bad as many others.

Don't even have my first job yet, only 14 years old. I'm going to look for one at the start of next year.

In the future though there's so much I can do but I can't decide. I'll more than likely get a degree in computing which according to the university of tasmania site opens up the door to pretty much any IT job.

I used to work in finance but now work for a company that deals with international medical and travel insurances. My voice is actually the recording when you call the company. I think that's pretty neat.

I do research, some bookkeeping, I am the switchboard operator, the mail person, I help IT in running statistical reports and I get to talk to people all over the world. I'm always ending up in new assignments and projects so I learn something new almost every day. I kinda have to leanr fast and it's a challenge but I like it. I really love the job.

My dislikes is that my boss sometimes tries to micromanage us and it takes up more time than just letting us do our jobs. There is also a lot of pressure and I have so many different jobs it's hard to juggle sometimes.

I just want to bump this thread because I think it's great, in school you're basically told there are many 10 jobs

Mechanic
Scientist
Doctor/Nurse/Vet
Teacher
Priest/Nun
Arist/Architect
Pilot/Astronaut/Race car driver

So you'll find most kids want to be one of those things and most of us get to our twenties and are like.. ****.. what can I do?

Which is where I am right now.

I'm an ESL teacher in the Czech Republic

I like:
The students
The opportunity to live in the Czech Republic and learn Czech
I dislike: The repetition of the lessons.
The fact it's destroyed my memory, I know which classes have learned which vocabulary and grammar areas but I can't remember which of my friends I told which story to or what I did last Saturday.
The fact that, with the exception of the CAE and Proficiency levels.. I basically know what I'm doing now, and I don't learn something new every day any more.
Being an actress, being happy and friendly every minute of the day.
Having to spell things. (I was diagnosed as partially dyslexic when I was a kid... shhhhh don't tell anyone, I could loose my job)

I absolutely can't teach English for much longer, so i have to decide fast what I want to do... I'd really like to do something with languages but the best way to do that is through travel and the only job I can do abroad is teach English.
The system in Ireland is changing and it's very unlikely i'll be able to afford to go back to college because of this fricking recession.
I'd like to do something with computers but I think programming is maybe out because imagine you've written a huge line of code, and it's not working, and there's a little mistake in it somewhere and you're looking for it.. now imagine how hard that would be if you couldn't tell a p from a q.
Still everyone has obstacles, Bill Gates changed the world (not single handedly of course) with the voice of Kermit the frog, and of course everyone loves telling us Einstein was dyslexic. 10 years ago I couldn't spell the words "what" or "said", and look at me now!
What kind of qualifications do the people who work on computer translators have?

i'm a web developer based in the training department of a call centre. i create computer based training courses, maintain a website that acts as an online archive of training materials and courses, and have developed and maintain the systems used for assessments and evaluations (all of which are online these days).

i absolutely love the job, my favourite part is seeing the things i have developed (and screamed at when finding errors) up and running and being used.

The title is senior software designer, and my job is writing embedded SW for WCDMA/LTE base stations.

I do love conquering new challenges, and hate doing routine tasks, meetings and handling bureaucracy (sorry if I misspelled it, English is not my native language :/ ). Unfortunately I cannot deny that some level of bureaucracy is needed, and documentation is essential as are the meetings.

I've also been doing cosmic ray research in an abandoned mine at Pyhäjärvi, Finland. (detecting muons to research particles hitting athmosphere near knee region in energy spectrum).

But more than anything I am a proud father of two terribly active kids :D

I don't mind, I can tuck my pension away and carry on earning for a few more years in a job that I enjoyed, just not doing it for the NHS.

Maths researcher and loving every single minute of it. I just love everything about it: the students, the banging with the head against the wall for months in search for an idea, the grindingly slow progress, the occasional jumping out of bed in the middle of the night with the crucial breakthtough, the daily learning of new things, new results and new techniques, the collaborations, the solitary work, giving talks about my work, listening to talks about others' work... it's my dream job.

It pays badly and it's very hard to get a permanent position, but I get out of bed and look forward to the day in the office, which is irreplaceble.
