Custom Ubuntu Install

I have recently discovered the USB Boot feature of 8.10, and I have made it successfully on my computers.

However, I was wondering if (using the persistent live USB thingo, where the settings are saved) when I install onto a computer, will those settings and installed programs be saved/transferred to the new install? Or will it revert to the default programs?

Using the usb device to install will revert to the default settings during the installation.

Then does anyone know of a (easy) way to customize an Ubuntu install, so I can effectively duplicate the settings on my LiveUSB?
