View Full Version : [ubuntu] Connecting a dial-up modem

I have put this here as Ubuntu appears to think of the modem as belonging to the network.

I have a stand-alone dial-up modem I want to use on the internet. Model is 3Com US Robotics fax modem (56K).

After configuration, Ubuntu appears to recognize the modem and will dial. I can hear dial tone and hear the DTMF dialing and the other end answers. However, I have no way of recognizing if the password is properly recognized or not. When I open Firefox I get no connection to the internet. How can I view the response from the ISP? Is there any way to manually operate the dialer? At the present time, it seems that only automatic dialing is possible.
