What happened to looking glass and do we need a new desktop environment?
With Enlightenment,Fluxbox, openbox,KDE,Gnome,Xfce and a long list of others. Is it time for something completely new?
where is looking glass heading?

I think looking glass has stopped development.. But we do not need another DE. KDE 4 is new and initiative, and Gnome 3 is coming up in 2010. XFCE will probably get major update along with Gnome.. Fluxbox, openbox, Compiz, Looking Glass are all WM (window managers). I think Compiz pretty much is better than Lookng Glass though.

I agree and thought looking glass was very unpolished.
I like Xfce myself.

See the plans for GnomeShell (http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell) (they may be conjecture). Simply put, most of the code would be in JavaScript, panel applets would be removed and there would be only one menubar at the top of the screen.

Compiz is the only way to go, no matter what env.

I liked Looking Glass and still run it on occasion to show it off to friends. I got it as part of Granular Funworks.
