View Full Version : [kubuntu] Macbook Pro 3.1 wireless problems

November 26th, 2008, 06:28 AM
Hi all,

I have a macbook pro santa rosa (3.1) with the atheros AR5418 wireless adapter. I can connect occasionally but only occasionally, and have no idea how to diagnose my problem.

Here are the details: I have the ath9k driver installed, and the
interface wlan0 enabled. Clicking on knetworkmanager shows a list of
available networks. One of them is mine. When I select it, it almost
always times out after 2 minutes. Very occasionally it has worked. I
have my router set to no encryption for setup purposes, though once it
worked when I had WPA1 running.

I know the ath9k driver is under intense development (thank you so
much, madwifi project!), so this might be flakiness on the driver's
part. Or maybe I'm doing something just wrong.

I don't even know how to diagnose what's wrong. I have tried several
troubleshooting pages, without much gain. In the
past I have been a linux hacker (started in '95) but am years
out of date. So I am totally comfy with the command line etc but don't know where to look for config etc.

Thanks for your help,
