I found some but they all have unmet dependencies. Thanks!

I use mail-notification for pop-mail.
It also works with Gmail.
What webmail service do you use?

I use gmail and yahoo.
In which case - try mail-notification.
Which Ubuntu version are you using?
If Hardy - get the Hardy .deb from getdeb.net; If Intrepid, just use aptitude.
It's pretty self-explanatory once installed, but this might help for Yahoo: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=356007 (if you use Yahoo POP - but mail-notification has Yahoo as a separate option)

Thanks, but I've tried that before. The free yahoo mail doesn't work with POP anymore.

It does work for Gmail, as does Gmail notify.
I'm afraid I can't help with Yahoo. Obviously Pidgin has the facility to monitor emails, but is not particularly good at it.

Are you using a package manager to install them (e.g. apt-get, Synaptic, Add/Remove, etc.)? If so, are all your Software Sources enabled?
