How do you install Ubuntu 8.10

Hi, i just got a Ubuntu 8.10 cd mailed to me and i tried to install it on my Gateway desktop computer. It all works fine until i get to the username and password thing. Everytime i type something it seems to be incorrect, so is there a default username and password? or where can i register to get it activated. Thanks for the help and please reply as soon as possible.

P.S: I just tried to put no username and password and it froze my computer. Do you think its my computer?

There is no default username and password and no ridculous things like activation in linux.Be careful to avoid typos,that's the only reason I'm thinking it's not accepting your username and password.Are you sure you are not putting a username like "root" or something?

A... are you sure that there are no typos when u set the password for your account during installation. i.e caps lock???
