I'm trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my newly upgraded hard drive on my ps3. Its a 250 GB Hard drive.

I get through the install/setup process until i reach the Instal Base system portion. During this process I recieve the following errors as me to continue or go back:

1. cdrom/pool/main/p/perl is corrupt
2. Couldn't download package perl_base
3. Failure trying to run chroot /target dpkg

and finally after continuing through all the errors I recieve the final:

Install base system failed

Are there any suggestions for a fix to these errors, appreciate the help

Did the md5sum (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM) match for the iso if you downloaded it and did you check the cd for defects?

hey,

I'm hoping someone can help me with my issue; I recently tried to upgrade from 8.4 to 8.10 and something went wrong.

The Grub menu only lists 8.4 (and my windows partition since i run dual boot). Also when I try to log on to 8.4 I get this:

alec@vandratheskald: $ [131.212018} ipw 220: Failed to send SYSTEMCONFIG: Already sending a command..

and this just keeps repeating..the computer never actually gets to the log in screen.

so igot it installed and running....needed to write at a lower speed.

I'm curious where to find a users manual for this thing.

As Noobish as it is (which is fine with me since Im new) after logging in I'm stuck at the command prompt and have no clue what to type. It was my understanding that Ubuntu could make my PS3 run like an almost normal computer...browse internet, apps, etc. How do I get to that point?

You should check out https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PlayStation_3

Oh and an aside, can you change the post to include that this is PS3 related? :)
