I wanted to try and save an old desktop, running P4 with 1 GB ram, onboard video only, no video card. After trying many times with normal install, ended up googling enough to learn I may need to install with LOW Graphics mode. Did that, installed Ubuntu 8.10, now I'm stuck in this mode. Can't recognize monitor, says unknown, says refresh rate 0hz, help please. I usual find my answer on google but not for this

ok, I ended up trying a fresh install after the safe graphics mode install worked, and now the regular install worked. However now I can get to the log in screen, type in my info, and it will never get past that. I hit enter and it accepts my password, then I get a black screen with my cursor. Was it wrong for me to erase the partion on the HD of the safe-graphics install? Should I have kept that there?
