View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu on HP Compaq 6715s runs very slow

November 24th, 2008, 02:29 PM

I installed ubuntu on my laptop but it runs very slow. Installation took about 4 hours. The laptops boots fine and ubuntu appears as normal. Starting an application however takes over a minute. trying the live CD resulted in the same (also runs very slow).

What is the cause of this and how can I solve this?

I must say that I also have HP 6715s notebook and that I also tried to install Ubuntu 8.10. I had the same problem, it was to damn slow. After some reading I found out that the problem is in ATI graphic card. So I tried to install new drivers from repositories, but it was too slow, I could get anywhere so I gave up. I installed Suse 11.0 instead.
Maybe you shold try with getting those repos. I unfortunately couldn't.
It would be nice if someone could help us HP and ATI users, I would very much like to switch back to Ubuntu.

Thanks and bye!
