View Full Version : [ubuntu] Unable to install Ubuntu 8.04

November 23rd, 2008, 07:57 PM

I have an old PC with an ASUS P4S8X motherboard running Windows XP which I wanted to switch to Ubuntu.

In that PC I have I DVD reader (Pioneer DVD ROM Atapi) and 2 HD (WD205BA & WD800BB-75CAA0)

When I try to run or install from the live CD that I used to install another computer successfully I get the following

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter help for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs) _

Any help appreciated as I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux/Unix for that matter.

Try changing some of the boot options F3, F4, etc.

How much RAM does the system have? You may do better with the alternate CD instead. That gives you more flexibility during the installation.

The system has 1GB of RAM which is enough for Ubuntu. I was about to try the F3, F4 options and I actually managed to start Ubuntu. Not sure what was happening before. I wonder if it will be very stable given that I must have tried a dozen times and did not change anything in my configuration and this time it started.
anyway looks like perseverance pays.
