sound and panel gone

Suddenly both my top and bottom panel are gone. My sound is gone too. I've tried to install the gnome-media package, still the sound didn't come back. Maybe it is working, but it's mute. If I had my top panel I would enable it cause there's a sound icon in it. I've been unsuccessfully trying for hours to get my top panel back, can anybody help me?

To bring up your panel, try this:
1. alt+F2
2. enter "gnome-panel"
3. click run
