[SOLVED] update help & progress bar problem

I have updated my system from 8.04 to 8.10 last night and there are certain problems.

One which I have encounter with is progress bar not working, when I was downloading proprietor driver for my nvidia it was showing 0% and after few minutes it was downloaded. Even when I click on the logout button it is saying in the last line that you will be logout automatically in 60 seconds but that time is not decreasing. Does it decrease or my system is normal?

Second is related to theme so I will be posting in that head

One more problem when I am opening the synaptic package manager it is giving the following message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.


Now what should i do???

OK I run the "dpkg --configure -a" in the terminal as root
and now the package manager is working

can anyone tell me why I faced such a problem??

It should decrease in increments of 10 so 60-50-40-30......

ya it is decreasing in the intervals of 10 thanks.
