i have a Geek Squad USB 4G that i would like to use for Ubuntu-eee on my Asus Eee PC 900a. tbh, i'm a tad confused, i've read a few ubuntu-eee 'HOW-TOs' but none really made sense. i'm using Hardy. any ideas ?

If you have the Ubuntu-eee ISO image, then you can follow the instructions at http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ to put it on your USB stick.

i apologize for the late response, but which one exactly ? there's like 40 there. and, correct me if i'm wrong, i don't see one for ubuntu-eee.
***EDIT: I'll try one of them for ubuntu 8.04, but if you can, could you link me to the one that's for ubuntu-eee ?
also, i don't want that Persistent install, i just need to install ubuntu-eee via USB.

You could try eeebuntu.org (http://www.eeebuntu.org/)
They have created a special version of Hardy for eee

ok, eeebuntu loads.. one problem: only loads from USB for some reason.

"Connect your USB Stick (1GB or more) to your computer and use this application to move Ubuntu Eee over to your USB stick:"
The application is a customized version of Unetbootin. Worked great for me, much easier than the pendrivelinux tutorials.

Or you could use "usb-creator" on Synaptic.

ok, so it installed(via unetbootin)... and then i TRIED to install it on my SSD on my 900a... it's on my flash drive. for some reason i have to start it with the POWER + ESC buttons to select device to boot from, haven't figured out yet how to make it boot from usb/SD card yet. also, my Eee 900a is really getting hot; hotter than my desktop sometimes! in eeebuntu the heat thing monitor is cracking 130F! which i doubt, but it still feels a good 90F~. any ideas ? i can hear the fan somewhat running but not like it did when i was running the original Xandros os in high performance mode that was on there.
***EDIT: it gets hot in record time (imo). roughly 15min and it's a good heat if not faster (about after startup & logged in)
the Eeebuntu looks amazing; i love it, yeah. but i just need to get that heat problem fixed.

To your first problem concerning boot problems (if I got you right) You have to enter boot menu by esc button.
But why install ubunu-eee?
I have eeepc 900 myself I tried ubuntu for eeepc, but I didn't like the way they have organized the desktop and menus. So I installed ubuntu 8.10 It worked almost right out of the box. I had to correct my wireless connection, and it looks like my graphics card is struggling when I change windows.
To solve the wireless connection i followed this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC/Fixes
The graphical problems is not to serious, when a new page has loaded everything works just fine.
I would recommend ubuntu 8.10 interperd for eeepc:)
