I have a dell inspiron 1420 that came loaded with Vista. I wanted ubuntu, so I used dell's ubuntu restore dvd on it, but am having some problems. The installation never even asked me for a user and password. When It was done it just logged me in as oem. I chose to use this restore dvd because I thought it would pick up my hardware and I wouldn't have to do as much configuration. I can see that things like my sound works, but wireless doesn't. I can't really do or check much out without the oem password. I have tried a blank password, oem, and dell without luck. Does anyone have experience with these restore cds? Should I just use a regular ubuntu install and configure it all myself? Thanks.
