View Full Version : [ubuntu] Network Monitor is Not Animating

The default network monitor that sits in the system tray, started by the "Network Manager" item in the sessions menu, does not animate when traffic is being sent. I formed a habit way back in Windows 95 to watch those little computer windows that came up when I was connected, because they actually accurately depict the flow of traffic, and would show me at a glance whether or not I was receiving a response from a given destination. The ones in Linux work the same way, I can add the network monitor applet to the toolbar and it animates, but I want the default one that is a service in my system tray to animate. Not a life or death issue, I'm just curious. The command ran by the item in the "Sessions" menu to start it is:

nm-applet --sm-disable

BTW I'm running Ubuntu 8.10, Gnome Desktop.

Yeah, it would be nice to know what traffic is going where. I'm on Ethernet card of course.
