[SOLVED] applications not showing in the panel

hi everyone,

When I start my laptop in Ubuntu 8.04 i have terminator, Firefox and Thunderbird automatically start. But today when I started the laptop up the applications started up and work fine but the icon is on placing itself into the panel.

I have tried different applications they all work fine but the will not place an icon into the panel to show that they are working so if I minimize the application is still open but not showing on the panel.

I have two questions does anyone know how to fix it and which open source project is in charge of the panel?

Right click you panel with mouse and select add to panel, add the window list option.
