nav bar on top and bottom not showing up

Hi,
I have successfully install xubuntu 8.10 on an acer aspire one with the help docs for this site. I have went further and have applied all the updates from synaptic. The system boots up to the desktop but the navigation menu on the top and bottom on the desktop do not appear. I have updated the xorg.conf file with the right DisplaySize 195 113 and Option "NoDDC". Can some one please tell me how to get nav bars to show up...

Try Alt+F2 to get a dialog box, and then type in:

xfce4-panel

I can't remember if you'll get both panels back, but you'll get at least one, and then you can add the other one, from the first one.
