Hello,

I have a Presario M2000 laptop with Hardy 8.04. Recently the fan stopped coming on and the computer shuts down with a"critical temperature reached" at 94C. My attempts to clean the fan are to no avail. I am trying to determine if there is any way I can force the fans to come on, and verify if this is a hardware or software issue.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to communicate with the fans. I'm locked out of BIOS (grrr -- that's a separate issue though), and lmsensors finds no sensors. Mbmon says "no hardware monitor found" and gkrellm gives me a temperature but no fans or voltages.

I've seen that some people have forced fans on by e.g. disabling acpi and I'm wondering how.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help

The same issues here, my CPU is basically cooking itself into a lovely Silicon-based meal. Any hints or tips? I've tried lots of things, but I'm not good with the whole command line side of things, so a lot of it is blind copying and pasting. Right now it's reading 98 Degrees. Not good.
