I'm using 8.04 at work now (yay!). I use gnome terminal to ssh to a server here at work. When I first started using ubuntu at work, I would open a gnome terminal tab for my personal machine and a tab for the ssh connection to my development server (where I had a screen session with several windows) and another tab to ssh to other servers as needed or sometimes for another command line for my personal machine. Then I realized I could use one screen session which would include windows for my personal machine and ssh windows to the work server(s).

What are the pros and cons of these two approaches as you see it?

Incidentally, I had the very same question

nomnex: The main difference you need to remember is that with tabs, if you close the window, the program running in it dies. With screen, they stay running in the background and you cna recover them.

and this link, after browsing a bit (with a cheat-sheet and good intro about the difference tabs vs. screen)

This should complete the information
