Crap. When I did a fresh install of Intrepid, the installer put in British English spelling instead of US English. How do I change it?

Go to System, Select Administration, then Language Support.
Change the default language to your preference.

... or just move to England ;) ...

I should have mentioned that I tried that. Changing the settings there does not change the dictionary off of British English.

I've been having a similar problem with 8.10. Despite my default language being set to US English, I'm still getting British spelling corrections in Firefox, gedit, etc. OpenOffice does not seem to be affected.

Any ideas, anyone?

I don't know if there is a global setting but in Firefox just right click in any text box and under "Languages" choose "English / United States". In gedit click "Tools > Set Language" and choose "English (United States)". Not sure what other programs you're having this problem in but hope this helps.
