View Full Version : [ubuntu] Wireless speed unstable?

November 19th, 2008, 04:43 AM
Hello. I just upgraded to 8.10. I was glad go see that my Broadcom card (BCM4312) was supported by default and I didn't have to spend two days getting it to work.

However, I am now downloading !100MB of updates, and I'm noticing a peculiar problem -- the download speed is not anything close to consistent. it goes from 22.4 KB/s down to 3000-5000 B/s for a few seconds, then goes back up to around 22.4 KB/s for a few seconds and then back down. Every one in a while it will spike up to 50 KB/s, but still. This is very annoying, and I'm not amused by the constant changing to such laughable speeds. My internet connection is around 95 KB/s max, and I know it's not an internet problem because my main desktop and Ubuntu 8.04 (which is on another partition) are just fine.

Is this a known bug in the included driver? A bug in the update manager? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!

X, I just installed Ubuntu v8.10 also.
My PCMCIA CardBus Type-II WiFi card pulls 54Mb/s.
But, my onboard Broadcom BCM4306 rev. 02 WiFi card pulls 1Mb/s, sometimes 6Mb/s.
I think this is an Ubuntu v8.10 issue with the wireless.
