I just added Ubuntu 8.10 to make my laptop a dual boot PC. I have a Huawei EC228 from alltel and when I plug it into the usb port, it auto detects as a different Huawei model with AT&T or VZW for providers. I was wondering if there's anyone out there who might be able to help me out.

I hate to necro a thread, but... I have the exact same problem. xD

Anyone know what to do now? >.>

Use your favourite dial up program and setup a dialup connection. (I used gnome-ppp).
Your username is: xxxxxxxxxx@alltel.net (the x's are your card's phone number)
The password is: alltel
The phone number is: #777

Then it is just a matter of setting up your card with in the dialup program. Mine is the "Huawei EC168" and is setup as the device /dev/ttyUSB0.

Just a note: I am pretty sure that your card needs to be activated first and the narrow minds at Alltel only has software that runs in M$ to do this.

Good luck!
