I think that the latest ubuntu 8.10 should have had full support for the Acer ApireOne netbook out of the box. I knew that 8.04 had problems with it and I have been patiently waiting for 8.10 because I was confident that it would support it out of the box but it doesn't.

I am disappointed that Ubuntu team let such a great opportunity slip away. If I was Shutleworth I would put every possible effort to make Ubuntu the best netbook OS, yesterday. Acer AspireOne, Asus EeePc and MSI Wind are hugely popular and Ubuntu should just work on them.

Now I have to wait another 6 months for the next release.

Have you tried looking for help in the AspireOneUser.com Ubuntu forums here (
http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=28)?

There are several (http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=7090) threads (http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3248) dedicated to getting Ubuntu running well on the AspireOne. There is also the Ubuntu community documentation here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne).

I don't know if those hold all the answers for you, but I don't know what I would have done without the EeeUser.com forums to get my EeePC 901 up and running, so I'm hoping they can help you at the AspireOneUser.com forums!
