I have been trying to burn the PC (Intel x86) desktop CD iso image from the US mirror at http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs-Xubuntu/8.10/release/, but it might have errors. The burning process kept ending with an error around %80-some-odd way through. I checked the md5 which looked correct, but I decided to try redownloading the iso again anyway. I switched to a different burning program, which burned it to a cd. When I try to reboot I get a menu of boot options, but when I try to run the live-cd or check the cd for errors I get a message that pop up saying that there are data read errors.

Is anybody else having similar problems?

The problem may happen because of bad/old/scratched cd or too fast burning speed. Try using a good quality cds and burn at x4 or so. If the iso's md5sum matches, re-downloading wouldn't give you a better iso. It looks like the errors happen after the download, most probably during the burning.
