adept no longer performs a daily check for updates since upgrading from kubuntu 8.04 to 8.10.
In Adept Manager --> Edit Software Source --> Updates I have "Check for updates" selected with "Daily" and "Download all updates in the background" selected. Adept never checks for updates.
I must either use Adept manually to check for updates or run "aptitude update". Once I have run an update the upgrade icon in the taskbar shows up if updates are available.
