Hi,

I have to use a VERY old PC with some 120MB RAM (!!) to restore data from an old ATA disk. The PC is so old that the normal 8.10 boot from live cd does not work.

So I googled around a little bit to find out how I can boot the 8.10 live cd into single user mode. I do not need more than that to mount my old disk and to copy data.

I found out that one can boot the live cd by ADDING the option "init=single" after pressing the F6 button.

As a result I became the text based "Recovery Menu" from which one can choose several recovery options including going to single user mode.

My question now is if somebody knows how to navigate through the options. The arrow keys do not work but I found out by coincident that applying some control characters move the cursor around.
But I did not really find out on how to really navigate through in a controlled manner.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks a lot

Heinz
