dell inspiron 8600
nvidia geforce fx go 5650
Intrepid Ibex 8.10
alps touchpad, and external usb mouse

when using the Fn key+arrow up/down
to adjust screen brightness, the window manager seems to become disassociated with the mouse, also the menus at the top of the desktop will select, but not open. the window manager will not move or resize any open windows. it seems the only way to reset the problem is ctl+alt+backsp

typing in gedit works fine even when the rest of the system fails to acknowledge clicks/key-presses

funny thing is it worked perfectly on hardy 8.4, I even tried it on a spare hard disk, to ensure it was not an upgrade bug. same problem.

I had the same problem on my inspiron 6000. Mine was a conflict with the gnome power manager. I switched it to guidance, and it solved the problem.
