View Full Version : [all variants] is running with all_generic_ide option a bad idea?

All,

Attempted upgrades to Hardy and Intrepid fail due to an apparent conflict between the new kernel's "IDE as SCSI" system and my PATA HD and DVD-ROM drives. (see my earlier post here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=790999)
Adding the boot option generic.all_generic_ide=1 lets me boot the Intrepid live CD. Any comments on what impact (if any) running with all_generic_ide will have on system speed/reliability?

Thanks!
