In the file browser dialog - for example, the "Open File..." dialog in Firefox - how do you hide all the hidden files and directories? Like most people, about 50% or more of my home directory is all hidden directories and files (things that begin with a '.'). Since those are alphabetically first, I have to scroll forever to get down to where anything actually is. In KDE the file dialogs have a little tool menu where you can turn this on or off, but I can't find it in the Gnome ones.
They originally DIDN'T show the hidden files, I think one time I explicitly went into a hidden directory from GEdit or similar, and it's been turned on ever since.
