Woohoo.

My new year's resolution was to not have windows on this (my main) pc for 2005.
To enforce myself, I've been moving partitions around.

My /home has been moved from /dev/hda4 ( / ) to /dev/hdb4
My /data (60 gig ntfs) is now a 60 gig xfs

I've cleaned out all my documents, no more doubles. I've organised my music, downloaded / recorded tv episodes.
My last windows partition is gone, and with it all the software I kept on my hdd in uninstalled state.
I've got no more windows/office/partition magic/games iso's on my discs. :-)

I hope I won't regret it. I'll have a lot of downloading to do if I do.

hey, running
rm -rf /home was fun, alright?

Don't worry, the tremors will pass. :-)

Actually, one of the more amusing things about being windows-free is listening to other people talk about computers. I usually end up overhearing lots of conversations about pc usage as I'm wandering around, and invariably it's some combination of bitching about viruses, spyware, etc. etc.

The best one was hearing someone say "Oh, I learned how to use spybot."

I thought to myself, "I helped a friend netinstall a debian server for a non-profit organization over ssh while he followed along in a shared screen session. He was 75 miles away and we alternated between doing that and talking about his new girlfriend. I socialized, built a computer for a charity and used several skills I picked up here and there that will be useful in the future. You clicked a button and made porn ads disappear"

Now, which one of us learned something useful? Did something useful? You do the math, and wear those shakes with pride.

Merry Penguin, and keep your windows strictly of the X variety. :-)
